ITA – Uno dei più importanti compositori, musicisti e sound designer della scena internazionale degli ultimi 30 anni. Muove i primi passi nel contesto industriale con il progetto M.T.T. e, a partire dagli anni ’90, guida il gruppo Meathead, una delle prime band industrial-noise-crossover della penisola. Negli anni, collabora con nomi di punta dell’avanguardia e della sperimentazione mondiale (tra i tanti: Mick Harris-Matera, Cop Shot Cop-Here, Girls Against Boys-Operator, Lidya Lunch) e realizza remix per Front 242, Pigface, Placebo, C.S.I. Nell’ambito cinematografico, realizza le colonne sonore per film di Salvatores, Sorrentino, Chiesa, Vicari. Tra il 2013 e il 2017 pubblica dischi con Blixa Bargeld (Einstürzende Neubaten) e produce numerosi lavori teatrali. Il percorso di Teardo è sorprendente: arrivare al grande pubblico senza perdere la tensione alla sperimentazione, anzi conservando intatta l’attitudine alla ricerca di linguaggi altri. L’ultimo lavoro di Teardo si intitola Ellipses dans l’harmonie, ed è ispirato alla musica contenuta nelle pagine dell’Encyclopédie di Diderot e D’Alembert, la cui copia originale è custodita nell’archivio della Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, che ha prodotto e commissionato l’album. Dentro MainOFF, Teardo proporrà una esibizione con violoncello e chitarra baritona; l’affinità tra i due strumenti riporta il suono alla dimensione minimalista ed essenziale in cui l’elettronica li collega: «C’è qualcosa di indicibile, ineffabile, nel suono, nella sua capacità di ridisegnare ciò che ci circonda, in certi casi fino ad alterare il nostro senso di percezione», spiega il compositore. In questa dimensione si muovono i brani proposti dal vivo con la violoncellista Laura Bisceglia, tratti da alcune colonne sonore e album recenti come “Wilder Mann” e lavori per il teatro di Enda Walsh come “Ballyturk” ed “Arlington”.
ENG – Teho Teardo is a musician, composer and sound designer with an interest in developing the possible connections between electronic and acoustic sounds. He began playing clarinet at the age of 8, but a few years later punk declared the end of the clarinet and so began another, more interesting, age as a guitar player. From then on Teho collaborated with artists such as Blixa Bargeld (Einsturzende Neubauten), Girls Against Boys, Lydia Lunch, Cop Shoot Cop, Alexander Balanescu, Wire, Mick Harris, Mario Brunello, Jim Thirlwell, Erik Friedlander and many others.
He is also one of the most active Italian composers for cinema and has created many soundtracks for renowned directors such as Paolo Sorrentino, Daniele Vicari, Andrea Molaioli and Gabriele Salvatores. His soundtracks have won him many major awards and great critical acclaim.
The compilation album “Music, film. Music” includes incidental film music from the international hit and Cannes jury prize and Oscar winner “Il Divo” by Paolo Sorrentino, for which he also won the David di Donatello Prize, Italy’s most prestigious prize, as well as the Ennio Morricone Prize at the Italian Film Festival. Morricone himself presented the prize and said of Teho’s music: ‘Experience tells me that sooner or later those who seek will find and in the passages between searching and finding there are important moments, moments such as the ones we hear on this beautiful album’.
Teho created the music for “Voyage au Bout de la Nuit”, the very succesful theatre piece inspired by Céline’s masterpiece, with the celebrated actor Elio Germano.
Other theatre work includes “Ballyturk” by Enda Walsh for which he won the irish Theatre Award, the “Matchbox” by Frank McGuinness, “Ingiuria”, a collaboration with the Balanescu Quartet, Blixa Bargeld and Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio. With cellist Mario Brunello, Teho reworked J.S. Bach’s “Art of Fugue” combining the sound of a string quartet with electronics, where tradition met the sounds of our age. He released an album with Blixa Bargeld titled “Still Smiling”, and the duo are currently playing a series of concerts throughout Europe. Just recently Teho won the prize for the best soundtrack at the Pula Film festival for his music on “You Carry Me”.
